All projects are different and will depend on the size and scale of the works as well as the site we are building on. An average new build project can take between 6-18 months.
This is largely dependent on your council and the manner in which they handle new development applications. An average new home will require 2-4 months of design development prior to council application, with the council process taking between 2 months - 12 months from start to approval.
Not always. There are fast tracked options that avoid council such as a Complying Development Consent (CDC), which is a much better and quicker way that avoids the red tape of council. However, this option will require a more stringent set of development rules that are to be followed with no exceptions and may impose too many unwanted road blocks on tricky sites.

Council permission is not always required, however this will depend on the scale of the project and more than likely will either be a complying development requiring Complying Development Consent (CDC) or a Development Consent requiring a development application to council. While there are exempt developments not requiring any formal approvals, as a rule of thumb however, it is prudent to assume that if you need a builder to complete the works it will likely need an appropriate authority approval for the works.
